主要研究领域：从事鱼类学、生物地理学、生物多样性、渔业生态学研究。任Ecology of Freshwater Fish、Research in Ecology、应用生态学报、中国海洋大学学报（自然科学版）编委。
主持多项国家自然科学基金项目。第一作者发表论文30余篇。主编、参编专著4部。参与获得国家科技进步奖、省级自然科学奖、省级科技进步奖等。
